Basically we give new life to otherwise discarded computers.
First step is to verify operation of all hardware. If something is in need of repair we fix it.
Second step is to erase the hard drive to an unrecoverable point (a Department of Defense standard). We want to protect our customer’s privacy.
Third step is to reinstall an operating system and to give further functionality an office suite is added.
We use an “OS” called Ubuntu. Ubuntu is an operating system consisting entirely of free and open source software. With Ubuntu you can surf the web, read email, create documents, spreadsheets and more.
Fourth and final step is to donate a working computer to the Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters. The best step of all. Instead of being in a landfill somewhere these computers will be sold by the hospital to help a sick or injured child. Our children are our future.
Ubuntu translated means “humanity to others”. Kind of fits the whole mission of Tidewater Computer Repair’s Computer Recycling Program.
